Fish Bowl Metaphor for Transparency

At the Jewish Assistance Fund we keep all of our information in a wonderful little tool called Drop Box. Those who need access to the information have drop box installed on their computer and use it to keep up-to-date on all of our decisions. It has made the inner workings of our process transparent to all involved.

Transparency means to hide nothing, to be open and to be candid. Transparency protects fairness and ensures the common good. Constituents have access to the range of information to fully participate in determining priorities and keep each other accountable. Without transparency, decisions become dark and secretive. Corruption flourishes and serves the interest of a very few. The more an agency can make information transparent, the more it will foster change with success that serves all interests.

The Ethisphere Institute is an international think-tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of the best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability. It lists 100 individuals from government, business, media, research, academia, and philanthropy who had made a significant impact in the realm of business ethics over the course of the year with the #1 priority of transparency.

This week the White House launched the Government Accountability and Transparency Board as part of its Campaign to Cut Waste. The board will root out and stop waste, fraud, and abuse in federal programs and making government spending more accessible and transparent for the American people.

Aren’t you sick and tired of these charades and travesties in our government? It is time to demand that our government and our industries and our services embrace transparency and make the changes we as a people deserve.

Interesting ideas. Who has access to the Dropbox folder for JAF? Just the people with the power or everyone?

We are very careful about privacy. The only people who use the drop box are officers and trustees. We never share client names and only share the statistics gathered from the information for fund raising purposes.
