It would have been something to be in NYC in 2010 to experience Sukkah City a design competition for innovative sukkahs. The winners included one made from a single 5,400-foot-long steel cable; another that resembles an inflatable pool toy; and another made of cardboard signs printed by homeless people. Each followed halacha requiring the temporary structure to have at least three walls that can resist strong winds and openings in the roof to provide more shade than sunshine and yet show the stars at night.
