A Black Sparrow Laureate

Every once in a while, something pops up on facebook that seems interesting enough to pursue further. Such was the case with this quote by Charles Bukowski:

Henry Charles Bukowski, August 16, 1920 – March 9, 1994, was a German-born American poet, novelist and short story writer. Bukowski wrote thousands of poems, hundreds of short stories and six novels, eventually publishing over sixty books. His writing was influenced by the social, cultural and economic ambience of living in Los Angeles emphasizing the ordinary lives of poor Americans, the act of writing, alcohol, relationships with women and the drudgery of work.

Beginning in 1967, Bukowski wrote the column “Notes of a Dirty Old Man” for several underground newspapers including the Los Angeles Free Press.
