Last night, on the way to Jazz at Andy’s, I stopped to admire the bright happy winter wonderland of Market Square. The rebirth of our downtown area is quite amazing!

I was there to see Jeff Berman play the dulcimer in the Fairmont Hotel. Jeff is a artist, and composer with a large global vision. A native of New York City, turned Pittsburgher, Jeff composes and plays on not only the mountain dulcimer but also on the vibraphone and a variety of percussion instruments to create a beautifully mesmerizing sound.

He is also a member of the group AppalAsia, with his wife, Sue Powers (my connection) and Mimi Jong where they create a cross-cultural experience that draws on traditional Asian and Western folk music.

You can check see AppalAsia and our downtown renaissance on First Night from 10:20 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. when they perform at the August Wilson Center.
