Hillary and Sonia

Seeing the title of the new television movie, Betty & Coretta, that tells the story of the wives of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X, makes me think of the two women that are getting and deserve lots of press, Hillary and Sonia.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor has a new memoir, “My Beloved World”, an inspirational account of her life, showing America’s possibilities for a humane, pragmatic, smart, poor, diabetic Puerto Rican girl from the Bronx. Once you read her personal story, you will agree with her 2001 comment on herself: “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white man who hasn’t lived that life.”

Hillary Clinton retired from her position as our secretary of state with sky-high approval ratings, including those of Obama given publicly on CBS’ 60 Minutes. Her exchange with Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin will go down in the record books as brave, honest, and brilliant: “With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans, was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night who decided they’d go kill some Americans? What difference, at this point, does it make?”

Totally agree with Hillary on that front. Let’s get to the real issue at hand! Thanks for highlighting these two extraordinary women.
