We have a plague on our hands- one-time-use plastic bags. They are not only a huge threat to the environment by the sheer volume that end in landfill, but also because of the resources needed and emissions that result from producing and distributing them.

Approx. 380 billion plastic bags are used in the United States every year. That’s more than 1,200 bags per US resident, per year. ¼ of theses are shopping bags.

Only 1 to 2% of plastic bags in the USA end up getting recycled. It is estimated that there are 46,000 pieces of plastic litter floating in every square mile of ocean that are responsible for the death of thousands of marine animals and millions of birds.

Americans use more than 10 billion paper bags per year made from approximately 14 million virgin pulp trees Paper, hundreds of thousands of gallons of water as well as many toxic chemicals.
