The UnWinding An Inner History of the New America is a well-conceived, hands-on look at how we arrived at this unique time of upheaval in America.

Beginning in 1978 and working through the presidential election of 2012, Packer follows four representative Americans, Peter Thiel, Dean Price, Tammy Thomas, and Jeff Connaughton interspersed with sketches of big names like Jay-Z, Newt Gingrich, and Oprah along with different areas of the country like Tampa and the Ohio rust belt.

Packer is asking big questions about where we have been and where we are going. He makes no attempt to tell us what to think, he simply using his amazing powers to shape the narratives. There are no false hopes and no happy endings. Some thrive; others struggle to survive; all part of the good and bad of being all-American.
