The breath is the most important part of any yoga practice. It creates a rhythm for flow. It alerts when it is forced or constricted. It gives a focus to help remove outside thoughts. It is energizing as well as relaxing.
Ujjayi,victorious, breathing is created by a light constrict to the opening of the throat. Gently pull the breath in on inhalation and gently push the breath out on exhalation against the constriction creating a well-modulated and soothing sound.
