Peace Of Mind

My mother died of Alzheimer’s disease. It was such a depressing and debilitating disease for not only her but also everyone who loved her. I thought Julianne Moore did a fabulous job portraying Dr. Alice Howland as she comes face-to-face with the devastating diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in the movie Still Alice.

These thoughts bring me to an article today, that according to the official autopsy, Robin Williams had a disease called Lewy body dementia (LBD), which not only caused him to displayed odd behavior in his final days but may have also contributed to his decision to kill himself. LBD stems from abnormal protein deposits that spread throughout the brain causing progressive dementia and symptoms generally associated with Parkinson’s disease, which Williams also had.

There is a new series on PBS The Brain. It’s quite fascinating and proves that there is nothing more amazing or more complicated.
